About Our School
Originally to be named Forest Middle School, Jean McClung Middle School opened to students in August 2011. The $34 million dollar school was part of the $593.6 million bond package approved by voters in November 2007. It was constructed on 12 acres, where Handley High School once stood at the intersection of Church, Haynie, and Craig Streets, and Forest Avenue, in the historic Handley neighborhood.
The 162,000 square-foot school serves approximately 910 students in grades six through eight. It has 26 classrooms, including science and computer labs. Instructional areas are also devoted to art, music, drama, life skills and career guidance. Jean McClung Middle School boasts two gymnasiums, a weight and fitness area, and an outdoor athletic field.
The school was designed by WRA Artichitects, Inc., built by General Contractor Turner Construction/Con-Real, with AECOM serving as Program Manager.
